Background

Churchill School opened its doors in February 1950 under the name Eastlea Boys High School. The founding headmaster Mr Jeeves Hougaard requested that the school be named after Sir Winston Spencer Churchill. Permission was granted by the Government and the school was officially named Churchill School.

The School Crest and Mascot

The school crest is a Griffin which has the body of a Lion (the king of land beasts) and the head of an Eagle (the king of the Air). It signifies dominance in all aspects of life. The school mascot is the bulldog signifying determination and tenacity.

The School Colours

The school colours are Purple,Platinum and Grey.

The Curriculum

The school has a wide curriculum subscribing to the Aristotelian balance where teaching focuses on the Heart, the Heard and the Hand. These translate into the two-tier system, the skills domain and the academic domain. The school offers 25 academic subjects and 14 Tec-Voc subjects. It also has a wide variety of sports and cultural activities.
